Air New Zealand returns to service last stored 787-9

At the peak of the groundings, the airline had five aircraft in storage. Air New Zealand has returned the last Boeing 787-9 from long-term storage, a move which allows it to ramp up its international operations. The last aircraft (ZK-NZD) had been parked at Alice Springs since September 2025, and one of several 787s the airline had grounded due to shortages of Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, which power its 787s. At the peak of the engine issues, Air New Zealand had five of its 14 787-9s grounded.
