Engine issues ground South Korea’s Light Armed Helicopter fleet

The LAH is replacing legacy types in South Korea’s military. South Korea’s military has suspended flights of the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) Light Armed Helicopter (LAH) Miron owing to engine defects. South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) found defects in 47 of 57 helicopters, according to official news agency Yonhap, citing an opposition politician. The report adds that cracks were found in 38 engines. The issue apparently relates to the engine’s diffuser, which slows down high-speed air as it leaves the turboshaft’s compressor.
