The Royal Canadian Air Force has spent several years looking for a new trainer after retiring its BAE Systems CT-155 Hawks in 2024. Canada has opened negotiations with Italy over the potential acquisition of Leonardo M-346 trainer jets. Ottawa confirmed the milestone on 16 June, noting leaders of the two NATO countries met during the G7 summit in France to discuss the purchase.
